So, a day or so ago, Neil Gaiman made a modest proposal (which doesn’t actually involve eating anybody), which very quickly became the All Hallow’s Read. It’s a very simple idea – on Halloween, gift somebody a scary book. Make it age-appropriate (as books that scare children and books that scare grown-ups are very different things), and make it something you genuinely hope they will enjoy. There aren’t enough traditions in which books are given as gifts, and as Halloween is all about scary stories, this seems the perfect day to invent one.
The idea has caught on already, and people all over the world are pondering what to give. Over the next couple of years, it could really catch on. You should play too.
