The Wright House

November 13, 2009 by Richard Wright in Journal, Life

After a long build up, we’ve now moved from our temporary accommodation in India, to our permanent digs where we’ll spend the next three years or so.

It’s quite an upgrade. If we’d known this was what awaited us, we’d have been much more impatient to move. You can’t miss what you don’t have, and all that.

We’re now in a duplex apartment, three and four storeys up, which means among other things a much better look at the kites (the feathery kind) that swoop around the area. Bloody big things they are, vicious and impressive looking.

On our lower level there’s a kitchen, a toilet, a massive living room, and a dining room suitable for entertaining twelve. The dining and living room are open plan, making things seem even bigger. The upper level has a massive master bedroom with full en suite bathroom, a second double bedroom now proudly inhabited by Eva, a study (with fold down couch bed for guests), and a second bathroom. There are loads of windows, so plenty of natural light, we’re not overlooked by anyone, and we have four small balconies.

When I get home at night, I now have to go looking for people, and our housekeeper appears to have gone into catatonic shock. Needless to say, we’re chuffed.

And finally, we’ve been able to order an Internet connection at home. Fingers crossed for next week…
